It has been a while...

But I am back to blogging. A lot has happened since I left off last fall. We have been producing new wines, pruning our vines, building a new tasting area, and more.

Let me first tell you a little about some new wines that have been released in the last few months:

2007 was a dry summer with just the right amount of rainfall and a sunny September and October, perfect conditions for Truro Vineyards first ever Estate wine. The harvest that year was the most bountiful in the Vineyard's history and we are proud to offer you our Estate Chardonnay as a result.

In celebration of the town of Truro's Tercentennial, we have crafted our 1709 Merlot. Open vat fermentation, extended American oak barrel aging and bottle aging have all contributed to create this classic rich and balanced Merlot. Enjoy!

Our first Pinot Grigio, in celebration of our Tercentennial, was selected for its natural fruit flavors and crisp finish. Fermented in stainless steel, it captures the essense of a fresh sea breeze.

We hope you give them a try.

As you can see by the picture, our canes are starting to shoot up. It was a long season of pruning but the vineyard isstarting to look alive again.

The other excitment around here is the design and construction of our new tasting area. We hope it will be beautiful and comfortable setting for you to come try our wines.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Winery Expansion Finished

Well, it all started about a year ago with plans to create a better space to make better wines, and on Wednesday, July 2nd the new winery expansion was complete. We are very happy with the addition and hope everyone can come out for a tour of the new facility. Our tours are at 1:00 and 3:00 everyday and are free.

I've posted a few pictures of our opening ceremony which took
place last Wednesday night. It was a lot of fun to see all who attended and we look forward to seeing more of you throughout the summer.

Working on our crop

Here at Truro Vineyards we have been working hard in the soil to ensure a healthy growing season for the grapes. We are inspecting each plant for tiny yellow insects called phylloxera, which in the 19th century were responsible for an epidemic that nearly wiped out all of the vineyards in Europe. Some clever vintners found a solution by grafting American rootstocks - which are immune to the aphids - onto European vines. There is, however, a possibility that any additional roots growing from the graft union (where the root and stem meet) may be susceptible to phylloxera. We are cutting away these so that the plant may be less vulnerable. Each of our plants gets individual attention, an important principle in viticulture.

New Winery Almost Finished.

video

We are very close to being finished with our winery expansion. Here is a short slide show of the finishing touches. Dave Roberts, patriarch and proprietor of the family owned and operated vineyard, says "it's all about the wine. We have created a wonderful wine country experience right here on Cape Cod that will be enhanced by our new building, allowing us to continue to make better wines year after year and long into the future."

We hope you all stop by to have a look. It will be open for tours on July 3rd. Our tours are at 1pm and 3pm each day. See you soon.
